Meet The Alumni
Teacher & Administrator at Sikkim Himalayan Academy
Nedup Bhutia
Nedup Bhutia, a 2008 alumnus of Sikkim Himalayan Academy (SHA), has a deep connection with his alma mater. After completing his Master’s in Sociology, he worked in various places but ultimately chose to return to SHA to serve as a teacher and administrator.
Nedup's journey with SHA began when he was just 6 years old. People from the academy visited his village to look for students for the newly opened school, and despite his young age, his family decided to send him there. Reflecting on his childhood, Nedup feels immense gratitude for the experience SHA provided. He believes that nowhere else could have offered him a childhood as fulfilling as the one he had at SHA. The friends he made, along with the teachers and volunteers he met, played a crucial role in shaping and transforming him in ways that would not have been possible otherwise.
Coming from a struggling farmer family, Nedup found such a sense of belonging at SHA that he never wanted to go back home. However, during the winter holidays, when the school was empty, he was compelled to return home.
Here is a video of Nedup sharing his school memories with us.
